The Vienna Team

In 2004, four families from the Oklahoma City area committed to establishing a strong, vibrant church in Vienna, Austria. The members of our team included: Jake and Amanda Haskew, Josh and Kim Hensal, Ira and Kari Lockwood, and Brian and Alisha Rusher. All are currently members of the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma. The members of the Vienna Team attended Oklahoma Christian University and were involved in a variety of missions and evangelistic efforts.

The Vienna Team has actively prepared for the challenges of the Austrian mission field with the guidance of Missions Resource Network (MRN)—an organization devoted towards the development of strong mission teams—and through consultation with many current and former missionaries. The Vienna Team has also benefited from the encouragment, advice and support of their church family at the Memorial Road church.

The team departed June 30, 2007 arriving in Vienna on Sunday, July 1, 2007. During the course of the next several months, the team members found housing, opened bank accounts, learned to shop at Austrian grocery stores and enrolled in language schools. Some even enrolled their children in schools and kindergartens where they would be speaking German on a daily basis for the first time.

In the fall of 2009 and the spring of 2010 the Lockwood and Rusher families left Vienna to move back to the United States. God continues to use the remaining two families along with many other Austrians and Americans, whom God has connected to the Vienna Team to connect the people of Vienna to the story of Christ through love and service as He develops a community of hope, purpose and redemption.
