"We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me." ~ Colossians 1:28-29

In July of 2003 I got my first cell phone. Alisha and I each got one when we were first married and until last week we've always used those phones. That's nearly three years of use. The screens on these phones didn't even have color capability--they were black and green. So, last week we finally upgraded and now we each own a V3 RZR. She has the black, I have the silver (my heart is gold and silver is the closest, of the available colors, to the color of my heart; Alisha chose the color closest to the color of her heart). We chose the RZR because it will work in Europe and you can check your email on it, as well as text message.

Needless to say they have made vast improvements in the cell phone world from the time we bought our first phones, which means I will spend the next six months confused and afraid of a device I do not know how to operate (very similar to Jacques Chirac when he assumed the presidency of France). "If you do not master your rage, your rage will be your master." The Sphinx from the movie Mystery Men said that (actually, in the movies he was interupted by Mr. Furious so he only said the first half of that quotation, but that's a story for another day). I'm thinking of naming my phone Rage and just accepting the facts. So far I have failed four times to download "Sabatoge" by the Beastie Boys as my ringtone (I did get it to work on the fifth try).

Sabatoge was not my first choice, but it was a my fifth choice, however landing in the top five makes me content with my decision. My top five choices for cell phone ringtone: (5) "Sabatoge" by the Beastie Boys, (4) "Numb" by U2, (3) "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" by R.E.M., (2) "But there are no sprinklers here either." from the film The Royal Tenenbaums (that's a line from the movie, not a song), (1) A good Jimi Hendrix song would be cool, but unfortunately Mr. Hendrix has no ringtones.

Sometime I'll rant and rave about my failed attempts at text messaging. In the future, I hope I have information to share about our team and mission, for anyone interested in that.

For the record, Brian picked the black RZR for me. And don't let him fool you... his heart may appear gold, but it's only gold-plated.

I'd choose "SuperFreak", but that's just me.

"SuperFreak" that's a good one.

Wait. Would Jessica pick "SuperFreak" for herself, or for Rush? The distinction must be made, or mass confusion will ensue. Seriously, floods, famine, pestilence, plagues, bad haircuts...You don't want to be responsible for that!

Gina, indeed, but if the chaos of the apocalypse is here, we are helpless to stop it. I suggest apathy, or at least Stoacism. I know, I know, Tomax, you'd suggest Hedonism, or at least Epicureanism.

Rush is a Beastie Boys fan? I'm in no position to question, I liked Atom Goren's band before he quit because he needed to spend more time on File 13 (as partial owner). So, I understand liking a band in spite of the sound, it's just that my admiration for the Beastie Boys has always been because they have come so far on such little talent. Then again, I've had Sabotage stuck in my head and it wasn't that bad.

Yeah, i like the Beasties. When They're good I like them. I don't think I'll ever own any albums by them, but they're great for a ringtone. And, it's harder than you think picking a ringtone. I mean, this is something by which people will judge me, and Sabotage is a lot better than Brass Monkey.

Those are definitely great selections for the ringtones, but I would like one with Owen Wilson's summary of his book "Wildcat" in the Royal Tenenbaums.

Sabotage better than Brass Monkey? Death by paper cuts and lemon juice is better than Brass Monkey! Brass Monkey is an embarrassment to monkeys everywhere--and just ponder for a moment how hard it is to embarrass a monkey. I'm guessing that hearing Brass Monkey or dancing in public with Ty might do it, but I can't think of much else.

I believe that bowling or rollerskating with me might also make a monkey blush.

Re: New Phone, Old Ways--Brian    By Brian on 3/10/2006
Actually, I’ve embarrassed three monkeys at once (it was a tasteless joke, the details of which I cannot remember, about two orangutans, a chimpanzee and a proselyte all walking into a…coffeehouse at the same time). I do not know if I have embarrassed any monkeys beyond that. If I have, I am unaware of it.

I miss my cell phone. Everyone here has a cell phone and they are always texting people (it's much cheaper to text here than to actually call) and yesterday at work I laughed at Jo and Nicki for not having the internet at their house and not knowing what a blog was...but then they laughed at me for not having a cell phone. So I say even if you are confussed by the thing, just be thankful no one can laugh at you for not having one.
